Tacoma AmVets hiring event set for May 18

Veterans as well as the general public will be welcome May 18 at the American Veterans Hiring Event sponsored by AmVets Post 1 in Tacoma.

“We expect 60 to 80 employers,” said AmVets veteran representative Mauricio Kenny on Tuesday.

He suggests that jobseekers bring an updated résumé and “dress for the job.”

Interviews will be scheduled, and some employers will make hiring decisions at the event, Kenny said.

Several local police agencies will send representatives, as will the TSA and Bureau of Prisons, Kenny said. Manufacturers, casinos, government agencies, retailers, financial institutions, IT firms, service providers and the food industry, among others, will be represented.

Beginning at 10 a.m. and running until 2 p.m., the hiring event will be held at AmVets Post 1, 5717 S. Tyler St., in Tacoma.

There will be no charge to attend for guests or sponsors.

“You don’t have to be a veteran,” Kenny said. “I’m also here to help the companies.”

He added, “Come early, and you might get a cup of coffee and a doughnut.”
