Thurston County COVID-19 cases grow to 112

Confirmed cases of COVID-19 grew to 112 in Thurston County over the weekend after two more cases were identified Saturday.

No new cases were announced Sunday.

A woman in her 50s and a girl were identified Saturday as the latest cases here, according to Thurston County Public Health and Social Services.

The county does not release specific age information for confirmed cases. For the girl, her age was identified as falling somewhere between 0-9.

For the week of April 27, the county finished with 12 cases. That’s four more than the county reported last week, but still much lower than the 31 cases reported the week of March 30.

Ninety-nine people have either recovered or are recovering from the respiratory disease, plus one man has died, giving the county 12 active cases of COVID-19.

Of the 112 cases to date, the county has had only five cases which have afflicted those 19 or younger, the data show.

Also in the region:

▪ Pierce County now has 1,482 cases and 52 deaths.

▪ Lewis County is still reporting 29 cases with three deaths.

▪ Mason County has 25 cases and one death.

▪ Grays Harbor County is still reporting 12 cases.

Around the state, nation and world

Washington state has reported more than 15,000 cases and 830 deaths, according to the state Department of Health.

In the U.S., 1.1 million cases have been reported with more than 67,000 deaths. New York City is home to nearly 19,000 of those deaths.

Globally, almost 3.5 million cases have been confirmed and more than 246,000 people have died from the disease.
