Thurston County COVID-19 cases inch higher to 132

A man in his 70s was identified Monday as the latest confirmed case of COVID-19 in Thurston County, public health officials announced.

The new case increases the county’s overall total to 132, including one death. Of those cases, 122 people have either recovered or are recovering, giving the county nine active cases.

Thurston County Public Health and Social Services has not been releasing the city or town of residency for each new confirmed case, but they have been identifying areas of the county by zip code that have cases.

The zip code 98513, which includes part of Lacey, but is mostly an unincorporated area of the county, has had the most cases with more than 20, the data show.

Around the region

Pierce County cases continue to march higher. The county announced seven new cases on Monday, giving the county 1,874 cases and 74 deaths. The most recent death was a Puyallup woman in her 80s with underlying health problems.

Lewis County has 35 cases and three deaths.

Mason County has 34 cases and one death.

Grays Harbor County is still reporting 16 cases.

Washington state has nearly 20,000 cases and more than 1,000 deaths, according to the state Department of Health.

The U.S. has 1.6 million cases and about 100,000 deaths, according to Johns Hopkins University data. More than 29,000 people have died in New York state.

Globally, 5.4 million people have been afflicted by the virus and 344,000 have died.
