3 new confirmed cases of COVID-19 gives Thurston County 135

Three new confirmed cases of COVID-19 were announced on Wednesday, giving the county 135 total cases since early March.

The latest cases were a man in his 80s, a woman in her 60s and another woman in her 50s, according to Thurston County Public Health and Social Services.

This week there have already been four cases after a total of eight cases were announced over the previous two weeks.

There were four cases the week of May 11, four more during the week of May 18 and now there have been four cases through Wednesday. The week started with one case on Monday.

Of the 135 cases, there has been one death while 122 people have either recovered or are recovering from the virus. That gives the county 12 active cases.

Thurston County also announced Wednesday that it had received approval from the state to begin Phase 2 of the governor’s phased approach to reopening the economy.

Businesses and activities that are permitted in Phase 2, with social distancing measures and health standards in place, include in-store retail purchases, hair and nail salons/barbers and restaurants and taverns, at less than 50 percent capacity, The Olympian reported.

The governor also relaxed restrictions on church gatherings.

Pierce County cases rose by another 16 on Wednesday with one death, a Tacoma woman in her 90s with underlying health problems, according to county health officials. That gives the county 76 deaths and 1,893 cases.

Lewis County is still reporting 35 cases with three deaths.

Mason County has 34 cases and one death.

Grays Harbor County is still reporting 16 cases.

Around the state, nation and world

Washington state is home to about 20,400 cases and 1,100 deaths, according to the state Department of Health.

In the U.S., the death toll has finally surpassed 100,000. More than 29,000 have died in New York state, according to Johns Hopkins University data.

Across the world, total cases have reached 5.6 million with more than 354,000 deaths.
