Thurston County adds 5 more COVID-19 cases Thursday, for 14 so far this week

For the second straight day, public health officials reported five new cases of COVID-19 in Thurston County, bringing the week’s total of new cases to 14.

Thurston County now has tallied 184 confirmed cases in the three months since the first case was announced on March 11.

The new cases are a man in his 40s and another in his 50s, and a woman in her 40s, another in her 20s, and a girl between 10 and 19.

While 179 people in Thurston County have at one point been infected with the airborne respiratory disease, 143 of them are considered to be “recovering” or “recovered,” according to data published by Thurston County. Three people have died of COVID-19 in the county.

In the region

Pierce County reported six new cases, bringing its total to 2,082 cases, with 82 deaths.

Lewis County reported one new case Thursday, bringing its total to 38 with three deaths. Thirty-one patients are considered recovered.

Mason County has added one new case for a total of 39 COVID-19 cases.

Grays Harbor County is reporting 20 cases.

In Washington state, 24,779 COVID-19 cases had been reported as of Thursday, with 1,194 related deaths, according to data from the Washington State Department of Health.

The United States surpassed 2 million confirmed cases as of Wednesday, with nearly 114,000 deaths as of Thursday, according to data from Johns Hopkins University.

Globally, nearly 7.5 million people have been confirmed to have COVID-19, and more than 421,000 people have died as a result of it.
