5 more COVID-19 cases gives Thurston County 26 for the week; overall total rises to 219

Five more confirmed cases of COVID-19 were announced on Sunday by Thurston County Public Health and Social Services, giving the county 26 new cases for the week and increasing the overall total to 219.

The five new cases were two women in their 60s, a man and woman in their 50s and a woman in her 20s, the data show.

There has been an increase in new cases, according to county data.

Over the past four weeks, the county has added 88 cases, compared to just 31 cases during the prior four-week period from April 27 through May 24, the data show.

The 26 new cases for the week of June 15 also matches the second highest weekly total since the county began tracking cases in early March. The county also reported 26 cases the week of March 23, the data show.

The one-week high to date has been 31 cases.

Of the 219 total cases through Sunday, 191 people are considered to have recovered or are recovering, 32 have been hospitalized, five have died and there have been two congregate care setting outbreaks. Those two locations are Olympics West Retirement Inn in Tumwater and Infinite Care Adult Family Home in Lacey.

Both locations have produced multiple confirmed cases of COVID-19, according to the county.

In the region

Pierce County announced 29 new cases on Sunday, giving the county 2,285 with 84 deaths.

Lewis County now has 49 cases with three deaths.

Mason County has 41 cases with one death.

Grays Harbor County now has 24 cases.

Around the state, nation and world

Washington state is home to more than 28,000 cases and 1,265 deaths, according to the state Department of Health.

In the U.S., more than 2.2 million people have tested positive and 119,000 have died, Johns Hopkins University data show. Globally, more than 8 million have tested positive with 465,000 deaths.
