Thurston County ends week with 25 COVID-19 cases; 12 more announced over the weekend

Thurston County ended the week with 25 cases of COVID-19 after 12 more were announced over the weekend.

The 25 cases makes it the fifth consecutive week of 16 or more cases, according to Thurston County Public Health and Social Services.

The county announced six cases on Saturday and six more on Sunday. The six on Sunday were two men in their 50s, a woman in her 50s, a man in his 40s and a man and woman in their 20s.

The overall total number of cases reported in the county is now 244. Of those, 221 people have recovered or are recovering, 33 have been hospitalized, four have died and there have been two congregate care setting outbreaks at Olympics West Retirement Inn in Tumwater and Infinite Care Adult Family Home in Lacey.

The situation at Olympics West is considered “ongoing,” according to the county.

▪ Pierce County announced 21 cases on Saturday, increasing its total to 2,487 cases with 87 deaths.

▪ Lewis County now has 69 cases with three deaths.

▪ Mason County still has 46 cases and one death.

Grays Harbor County has 25 cases.

Washington state is now home to 31,752 cases with 1,310 deaths, according to the state Department of Health.

In the U.S., 2.5 million people have contracted the virus and 125,000 have died, according to data compiled by Johns Hopkins University. Globally, 10 million people have been afflicted, producing 500,000 deaths.
