Thurston County reports 10 new cases of COVID-19, brings week’s total to 29
Thurston County confirmed 10 new cases of COVID-19 Wednesday, bringing the weeks total to 29. This week already has the second highest number of new cases, falling barely behind the week of March 30, when 31 cases were reported.
According to data from Thurston County’s Department of Health and Public Services, the new cases are in: one man and one woman in their 20s, two women and one man in their 30s, two women and one man in their 50s, a man in his 60s, and a woman in her 70s. Half of the cases today are part of the ongoing trend of younger people catching the disease. In yesterday’s Letter to the Community, Thurston County’s Acting Public Health Director Dr. Diana Yu wrote the rise in cases are a result of travel, some of which was ”to areas with a rapid rise in cases, like Arizona.” Some of the new cases are household contacts of previously confirmed cases, some are from people meeting up with friends, others are from work and “the rest have been exposed in the community,” she wrote.
People in Thurston County who are considered “recovered” or “recovering” went up to 228 today, and the amount of people who have been hospitalized at some point over the course of the pandemic went up to 35. So far Thurston County has had four residents die from the disease.
