Thurston County reports 25 new COVID-19 cases, pushing overall total to 674
Thurston County reported 25 new cases of COVID-19 on Saturday, bringing the weekly total to 96 reported cases. This is the second most cases recorded in a single week for the county, and ties for the second the most cases in a single day.
Data from Thurston County Public Health and Social Services show the cases are in:
- A boy and four girls 9 or younger;
- Two boys and three girls between the ages of 10 and 19;
- Two men and a woman in their 20s;
- Two men and a woman in their 30s;
- A man and three women in their 40s;
- A woman in her 50s;
- A man and a woman in their 60s; and
- A man and a woman in their 70s.
The county notes that between July 23 and July 29, 4.1 percent of COVID-19 tests had come back positive. As of July 29, 22,426 tests had been administered to Thurston County residents since the beginning of the pandemic.
Of the 674 people who have tested positive for COVID-19 in Thurston County since the first case was reported March 11, 520 have “recovered” or are “recovering,” according to the county website. This is a large jump from Friday when the county reported 320 people were considered “recovered” and had been released from public health monitoring.
The overall total of hospitalizations rose by one Saturday to 56, and the number of county residents who have died from the disease remained at eight. Two residents died this week from COVID-19: one man in his 60s and another in his 90s.
In the region
- Pierce County reported 109 new cases of COVID-19 Saturday and no new deaths. A total of 4,984 people in the county have tested positive for the disease and 114 have died from it.
- Lewis County reported five new cases Saturday; two of those people are under age 20, one is in their 30s, another in their 40s and one is in their 80s. In all, 190 residents of the county have tested positive since the first case was discovered March 4, three have died, and just 51 are considered recovered.
- Mason County has reported 166 cases and one death total.
- Grays Harbor County has reported 95 cases and one death.
Around the state, nation and globe
- Washington State has been delayed in reporting new COVID-19 cases since Friday. As of then, the Department of Health has been reporting 55,803 cases and 1,564 deaths. In a news release, DOH said it planned to have its data dashboard fixed Saturday evening.
- In the U.S., more than 4.6 million people have tested positive for the disease and more than 154,319 people had died due to complications from it as of Saturday, according to data from Johns Hopkins University.
- Globally, over 17.7 million cases have been reported and 682,855 deaths had been recorded as of Saturday afternoon.
