Thurston County announces 2 new COVID-19 cases
Thurston County Public Health and Social Services announced two people in the county tested positive for COVID-19, Monday.
County Data show the two new cases are in a girl between the ages of 0- and 9-years-old and a man in his 20s.
So far 679 Thurston County residents have tested positive for the disease since March 11 and eight of those residents have died from it.
Recently, the amount of people considered by county as “recovered” or “recovering,” went up by more than 200 people to 536 and the number of hospitalizations rose to 56. Both of these increases are “catch up” following data reviews done by the county, wrote county spokesperson Meghan Porter in an email to the Olympian.
Unlike recoveries and hospitalizations, Thurston County gets updates on new cases daily from labs and healthcare providers. “Whenever we get the info is when we report it,” said Magen Johnson, a spokesperson for Thurston County.
When a new COVID-19 case is discovered by a lab or a healthcare provider, they will notify Thurston County. If the county is notified of a case before noon on the day it is discovered, it will be included in that day’s count. However, if a case is reported after 12 p.m., it will be included in the following day’s count, Johnson explained.
Daily case counts for Thurston County are recorded over a 24-hour period starting at noon the day prior to the next Daily Update’s release. The deadline for cases to be reported is at noon each day, so if a case is reported at 12:05 p.m. on Monday, it will be posted by the county on Tuesday. Data collected during the 24-hour period is released each day at around 3 p.m., according to the county website.
