35 new COVID-19 cases reported in Thurston County, a new single-day record

Health officials announced 35 new COVID-19 cases in Thurston County on Thursday — the most cases ever recorded in a single day in the county.

Previously, the most cases in a single day was 25, which happened on July 10 and on Aug. 1.

Data from the Thurston County Department of Public Health and Social Services show the cases are in:

  • Three boys and two girls under 20;
  • Three men and five women in their 20s;
  • Four men and one woman in their 30s;
  • Three men and one woman in their 40s;
  • One man and three women in their 50s;
  • Two men and two women in their 60s;
  • Two men and two women in their 70s; and
  • A woman in her 80s.

The 35 new cases bring the county’s overall case total to 743 and the weekly total to 66. Last week’s total new cases was 99 and the week before that it was 93.

Currently, Thurston County has declared 536 patients “recovered” or “recovering” from the disease. This means they are no longer under public health isolation.

Since the first case was discovered in the county on March 11, 57 people have been hospitalized for treatment at some point in their illness. Ten Thurston County residents have died from COVID-19 so far — two of them passed away earlier this week.

In the region

  • Pierce County reported Thursday that 123 more people in the county had tested positive for COVID-19 and five more had died from it. A total of 5,397 people in Pierce County have tested positive for the disease and 123 have died from it.
  • Lewis County reported 12 people tested positive for the disease on Thursday. Three patients are under age 10, two are in their 20s, three are in their 30s, one is in their 40s, another in their 60s, one is in their 80s, and one is in their 90s. A total of 215 people have tested positive in the county and three have died.
  • Mason County discovered 13 new cases on Thursday, bringing their overall total to 214 cases with one death.
  • Grays Harbor County announced its second COVID-19 related death and that its case total had risen to 104.

  • Washington state’s Department of Health reported 59,379 cases of COVID-19 over the course of the pandemic and that 1,619 people have died from the virus, according to data on its website Friday.
  • In the U.S., more than 4.9 million people had tested positive for the disease as of Friday, and nearly 161,000 deaths had been attributed to the virus, according to data from Johns Hopkins University.
  • Globally, nearly 19.2 million cases of the disease had been reported as of Friday, along with nearly 717,000 deaths.
