Rosie’s Place shelter reopening after COVID-19 shutdown
Rosie’s Place, a young adult shelter run by Community Youth Services, was slated to reopen Tuesday night after being closed for two weeks following a confirmed COVID-19 case there.
Keylee Marineau, Thurston County’s Homeless Prevention and Affordable Housing Coordinator, said 29 staff members and 24 youth were tested after the one confirmed case. All tested negative.
Derek Harris, CEO of Community Youth Services, said he has no concerns about re-opening.
“That really was reflective of the universal precautions we did before, all of the mask wearing we had everybody do, the constant cleaning, as well as the temperature and symptom checks that we’ve had in place since COVID started,” Harris said.
Rosie’s Place also operates a daytime “engagement center,” which will reopen on Wednesday.
The center will offer the same services as before it closed, Harris noted.
