Thurston County reported seven people tested positive for COVID-19 on Wednesday, bringing the week’s total to 33 new cases. The county also reported a new congregant care setting outbreak, bringing the total to four ongoing outbreaks at care facilities.

According to data from Thurston County Public Health and Social Services, the seven new cases are in:

  • A boy and a girl under the age of 10;
  • Two women in their 20s;
  • A man in his 30s;
  • A woman in her 40s; and
  • A woman in her 70s.

Along with the new cases, the county announced a new congregant care setting outbreak —the fourth in the past week and sixth overall. The county has not given the names of any of the recent outbreak sites, saying site names will only be announced if the location poses a risk to public health.

Thurston County Health Officer Dr. Dimyana Abdelmalek wrote in her most recent Letter to the Community she wants to continue “safeguarding confidential personal information and abiding by federal and state laws.”

She also explained the outbreak sites are “under quarantine and there is no threat to the general public,” herself having gone to the sites to facilitate testing.

Of the 809 COVID-19 cases that have been reported in Thurston County, 657 are considered “recovered” or “recovering” by the county. Overall, 58 people have been hospitalized for treatment and 11 have died.

Between Aug. 4 and Aug. 10, 4 percent of those tested for COVID-19 received positive results. As of Aug. 10, 23,815 Thurston County residents had been tested for COVID-19 and a cumulative total of 3.1 percent of tests have come back positive.
