Thurston County has reported 861 cases of COVID-19 since the first was discovered on March 11. Since then, 670 patients have “recovered” or are “recovering” from the disease, 58 have been hospitalized at some point for treatment and 11 have died.
Currently, four congregate care settings are the source of COVID-19 outbreaks in Thurston County. County Health Officer Dr. Dimyana Abdelmalek wrote in her Aug. 7 Letter to the Community that the county has investigated two of these outbreaks; one was in a “residential group home,” the other an “adult family home,” according to the letter.
County spokesperson Magen Johnson said no further information would be disclosed about the outbreaks.
Based on her evaluation, Dr. Abdelamlek has not found reason to consider any of the outbreaks a risk to public health. Because they are not a risk and because the county wants to maintain the privacy of those who work and live in the congregate care settings, the names of the facilities will not be revealed.
