Thurston County now has over 900 COVID-19 cases
More than 900 COVID-19 cases have been reported in Thurston County after the Department of Public Health and Social Services had nine new cases reported to them Friday.
Data from TCPHSS shows the nine county residents who tested positive are:
- A girl between the ages of 10 and 19;
- Two men and a woman in their 20s;
- A man and a woman in their 30s;
- Two woman in their 50s; and
- A man in his 70s.
The new cases brought the overall case total for the county to 908 and this week’s total to 72.
Thurston County continues to report that 670 residents who had tested positive for the disease have “recovered” or are “recovering.” This means the residents are no longer under Public Health Isolation, according to TCPHSS.
The number of hospitalizations remains at 59, and according to a tweet from the health department, only one person has been hospitalized in the past seven days.
Since the first case was announced on March 11, 11 county residents have died from COVID-19.
The number of ongoing congregate care setting outbreaks is currently seven, which includes the recently announced outbreak at the Thurston County Jail.
Five of the other outbreak sites were described by Thurston County Health Officer Dr. Dimyana Abdelmalek in her Aug. 18 Letter to the Community as “two adult family homes, one adult group home, and two long-term care facilities.”
The sixth outbreak setting, which was reported by TCPHSS on Aug. 19, has yet to be described. The county will keep the names of the outbreak settings private so no one who lives or works at them is identified.
IN THE REGION
- Pierce County is reporting 65 new COVID-19 cases and one new death on Friday. A total of 6,310 county residents have tested positive for the disease and 139 have died from it.
- Lewis County discovered eight more of its residents tested positive on Friday. Two people who tested positive are below age 20, two are in their 20s, two are in their 30s one is in their 40s and one is in their 50s. The county also announced 24 recoveries Friday. The county has reported 317 cases and four deaths in all.
- Mason County announced seven new cases, bringing its case total to 300 with one death. The county also announced it considers 49 cases active.
- Grays Harbor County reported 16 new cases, bringing the county’s case total to 156 with five deaths. The county considers 56 cases active as of Friday.

- Washington state’s Department of Health is reporting 69,389 COVID-19 tests have come back positive and 1,837 deaths have occurred in the state since the pandemic began.
- In the U.S., more than 5.6 million people have tested positive for the disease and 175,219 people have died from it, according to data from Johns Hopkins University.
- Globally, almost 23 million cases have been reported along with 796,341 deaths.
