Thurston County COVID-19 cases rise to 962 after county announces 10 more on Thursday
Confirmed cases of COVID-19 rose to 962 after Thurston County announced 10 more cases on Thursday.
The new cases were a man and woman in their 50s and a man in his 40s, but the seven remaining cases were men and women in their 20s, according to Thurston County Public Health and Social Services.
Those 20-29 are the largest demographic to contract the virus in the county, or 210 cases to date, representing 22 percent of the overall total of 962, county data show.
Of the 962 cases, 785 people have recovered or are recovering, 60 have been hospitalized at some point during their illness and 12 have died. The county also has revised its congregate care setting data.
The county announced Wednesday that it had eight congregate care setting outbreaks, but revised that information on Thursday to say that it was only seven.
In a series of tweets, county Health Officer Dr. Dimyana Abdelmalek said the following: “After additional investigation by our Disease Control and Prevention staff, what we initially identified as a single case linked to a long-term care facility was not in fact linked because the individual was not present at the facility during their infectious period.”
An outbreak in a long-term healthcare facility is defined as one or more residents or healthcare workers with confirmed COVID-19, according to the county.
The Thurston County Jail has been identified as having an outbreak, but other recent outbreaks have not been disclosed by the county.
