Thurston County reports 16 new cases of COVID-19 on Monday

Thurston County added 16 new cases of COVID-19 on Monday, bringing the total number to 1,224.

Last week’s 74 cases reached a 6-week high, after the previous week’s relatively low count of 41.

Monday’s cases include three people aged 10-20, two in their 20s, three in their 30s, one in their 40s, four in their 50s, two in their 60s, and one in their 70s.

Of the county’s 1,224 total cases since March 11, 990 people have recovered or are recovering, 92 have been hospitalized at some point during their illness and 17 have died. One adult family home is still experiencing a COVID-19 outbreak, the data show.

In the region

Pierce County on Monday announced 49 cases. One more person has died, a woman in her 70s from Tacoma with underlying health conditions. The county now has a total of 7,821 cases and 171 deaths.

Lewis County reported eight new cases on Monday for a total of 543 cases and four deaths.

Grays Harbor County reported 26 new cases Monday for a total of 505 cases and seven deaths. Eighty-one cases are considered active.

Mason County reported four more cases on Sunday for a total of 415 cases and four deaths. Monday data was not available.

Around the state, nation and world

The state Department of Health on Monday reported 439 new confirmed cases of COVID-19, giving the state 86,269 cases and 2,100 deaths.

In the U.S., the number of people who have had confirmed cases of the virus had topped 7.1 million Monday, and about 205,000 had reportedly died as a result, according to Johns Hopkins University data.

Globally, 33.2 million cases have been reported and the global death count was above 999,000 Monday morning, the data showed.
