Thurston County announces 26 new cases of COVID-19 Friday

Friday was another big day for COVID-19 cases, as the county added 26 new cases to bring the total to 1,300.

After announcing 23 cases on Wednesday and 22 more on Thursday, this week has already seen 92 new cases, more than twice that of the week before last, when the county hit a multi-week low of 41.

There have been 122 new cases in the past 7 days, according to Thurston County Public Health and Social Services.

Friday’s cases included two people under ten years old, two people aged 10-20, five people in their 20s, five in their 30s, five in their 40s, four in their 50s, one in their 60s, and two in their 70s.

Of the 1,300 total cases, 1,015 people have recovered or are recovering, 92 have been hospitalized at some point in their illness, and 17 have died.

There remains one ongoing outbreak. The county has experienced ten outbreaks during the course of the pandemic.

In the region

Pierce County added 62 cases Friday and no new deaths, giving the county a total of 8,031 cases and 176 deaths.

Lewis County reported eight new cases for a total of 587 and four deaths as of Friday.

Grays Harbor County announced three new cases on Friday for a total of 538 and 10 deaths.

Mason County reported nine new cases on Friday for a total of 461 and six deaths.

In the state, nation and world

The state Department of Health on Thursday reported 88,810 cases and 2,143 deaths on Friday.

In the U.S., more than 7.3 million cases have been reported and more than 208,000 people have died as a result, according to Johns Hopkins University data.

Globally, more than 34.4 million cases have been reported and more than 1 million people have died, the data show.
