Here are the latest COVID-19 numbers confirmed Wednesday in Washington state

The Washington state Department of Health reported more than 5,000 new COVID-19 cases Wednesday, the result of a “data cleanup” ranging from January 2021 to January 2022.

As of Wednesday, the state’s preliminary death tally was 12,544. The confirmed death tally as of March 20 was 12,493.

The statewide case total from the illness caused by the coronavirus stood at 1,464,398 cases on Wednesday.

The state frequently revises preliminary data until it’s considered confirmed, sometimes lagging up to a month. It releases new data to the public on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays.

Washington’s population is estimated at about 7.7 million, according to the latest U.S. Census figures.

Hospitalization

During March 24-30, 88.2 percent of staffed intensive care unit (ICU) beds in Washington were occupied by COVID-19 patients. Out of all staffed ICU beds, 2.8 percent were occupied in the same period. The state no longer releases more recent data.

Acute care hospitals in Washington reported a total of 245 COVID-19 patients occupying beds Tuesday with 11 on ventilators.

Case rates

For the past seven days, Washington has had a case rate of 69.5 per 100,000 people.

The national case rate for the past seven days was 56.6 per 100,000, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

Vaccine

According to DOH, 67.6 percent of the total state population has been fully vaccinated against COVID-19.

On the national level, 65.7 percent of the population has been fully vaccinated, according to CDC statistics.

Worldwide, more than 11 billion doses of vaccine have been administered.

U.S. and world numbers

There have been 983,499 deaths from the coronavirus in the United States as of Wednesday. More than 80.2 million confirmed coronavirus cases have been reported in the country, according to Johns Hopkins University.

Worldwide, more than 6.16 million people have died from the disease. Global cases exceed 494 million.

Testing

On March 27, the most recent collection date with complete data, 308 positive test results were reported out of a total 18,073 specimens collected.
