Paving work could tie up traffic near Portland Avenue and I-5 in Tacoma
Traffic near Portland Avenue and Interstate 5 in Tacoma might be congested this weekend as construction crews complete a paving project, according to the state Department of Transportation.
The intersection of Portland Avenue and East 28th Street will be closed from 9 p.m. Saturday (Sept. 24) to 5:30 a.m. Sunday, as will the northbound I-5 exit to Portland Avenue.
Sunday will see the closures of the intersection of East Bay Street and East 28th Street, East 28th from Portland Avenue to Bay Street, the East 28th/Bay Street on-ramp to northbound I-5 and the Bay Street on-ramp to northbound state Route 167, also known as River Road.
The work is part of the project to resurface I-5 through Tacoma and widen it in anticipation of the addition of carpool lanes.
