Fireworks display: South Sound Speedway, 3730 183rd Ave SW, Rochester, after races conclude.

July 3

Fireworks Spectacular and Freedom Concert: 4 to 11 p.m. at Rainier Vista Community Park, 5475 45th Ave SE, Lacey. Families are encouraged to bring picnics or enjoy a variety of food vendors. Live music begins at 5 p.m. Fireworks at 10 p.m. Admission and parking are free A $10 wristband will be available for children for the inflatable slides, bounce houses, obstacle courses and more in the KidzZone. Fireworks display: Boston Harbor Marina, 312 73rd Ave NE, Olympia, at dusk.

July 4

Independence Day Parade: This year's theme is "Like Totally '80s." The parade begins at 11 a.m. downtown Tumwater.

Artesian Family Festival: On the Tumwater Valley Golf Course driving range, with music, food, and games. No pets, alcohol, or personal fireworks allowed. Gates open at 6 p.m.; the fireworks show begins at 10:15 p.m. Festival entry free. Event Parking: $10/car. Information: 360-754-4160 or tumwaterparks@ci.tumwater.wa.us.

BBQ and fireworks: Nisqually Red Wind Casino, 12819 Yelm Hwy SE, Olympia. BBQ 1-9 p.m., fireworks 10 p.m.

July 6 and 20

Native plant walks: Native Plant Salvage Foundation plant experts lead a walk along Olympia’s McLane Creek Nature Trail. All ages. Plant walks are on the first and third Thursdays of every month, 6-7 p.m. Sliding-scale donation of $5-$20 suggested. Go to nativeplantsalvage.org for more information

Capitol Lakefair fireworks: 10 p.m. Capitol Lake, Olympia

Aug. 12

Ride for the Dogs Poker Run: Help shelter dogs with 125-mile motorcycle ride through Mason County. Starts at JR’s Hideaway in Belfair. Sign-up is 8 a.m. to noon with first riders out at 10 a.m. Riders $15 and passengers $5. Sign up the day of the event or register online before Aug. 6 to receive a free event patch, an extra door prize ticket and GPS coordinates. Remaining patches will be sold for $5 at the event.
