Lakefair Grand Parade wows crowds

Thousands gathered under sun-filled skies in Olympia on Saturday afternoon for Capital Lakefair’s Grand Parade.

The event is one of the largest annual parades in the region, organizers say.

Lakefair president Karen Adams-Griggs said the parade featured 101 entries. They ranged from high school bands and drill teams to classic car clubs and floats from other community festivals.

“Big turnout for Lakefair this year,” Adams-Griggs said. “It’s been fun.”

The parade is scheduled to be aired on TCTV (Channel 77 on Comcast, and Channel 23 in the Yelm area) several times through July 31, according to the Lakefair program.

In its 60th year, the Capital Lakefair festival will conclude with the Grand Finale Fireworks Show at 10 p.m. Sunday. The theme for this year’s festival is “Putting on the Ritz.”
