Brush fire reported alongside I-5 near Grand Mound
West Thurston Regional Fire Authority crews were dispatched to a brush fire alongside Interstate 5 near Grand Mound on Saturday afternoon.
The fire was reported at 3:36 p.m. alongside the on ramp to southbound I-5 from Exit 88, a Thurston County dispatcher said.
“It’s not threatening any structures,” the dispatcher said.
The Washington State Department of Transportation posted on Twitter that the fire didn’t cause any lane closures, however the right shoulder of the U.S. Highway 12 ramp to southbound I-5 was closed for the incident.
At 4:10 p.m., WSDOT reported that it was reopened. By then, the flames were out, and crews from the Department of Natural Resources were on the way to mop up the scene, according to scanner traffic.
On Saturday morning, a brush fire broke out alongside I-5 in Lacey. That fire was caused a travel trailer blew a tire, and its hub caused sparks that went into the median, officials say.
