Tivoli Fountain — one of the oldest and most iconic features of the Capitol Campus — is operating again and people are invited to help celebrate its restoration.

The celebration will run noon to 1:30 p.m. Friday at the fountain on Capitol Way. It will include a display provided by the Olympia Tumwater Foundation, a selfie station where people can snap pictures with the fountain, and remarks from representatives of the foundation, cities of Olympia and Tumwater, and Gov. Jay Inslee.

Originally installed in 1953 through the generosity of the Schmidt family and the Olympia Tumwater Foundation, Tivoli Fountain was created to serve as a key feature for the West Capitol Campus.

The project to repair the aging fountain made it more sustainable, requiring less water, less energy, and less maintenance. For example, the original fountain operated with an approximate 27,800 gallon water capacity. Now, the capacity is approximately 19,000 gallons -- a 32 percent reduction in the volume of water needed to operate the fountain.
