SafePlace Speak Up, Speak Out Gala: 5-10 p.m. at SafePlace’s Olympia Community Service Center, 521 Legion Way SE, Olympia. Proceeds support 24-hour crisis programs for survivors of domestic and sexual violence. The gala includes live music by Los Super Hermanos and Dillingers Cocktails & Kitchen small bites and cocktails. The mighty typewriter: Learn about vintage machines and watch performance typewriter poet Shanon Rae create customized poetry. Bring your machine for a chance to win a prize. Lake Sylvia State Park Fall Festival: The public is invited to the eighth annual Lake Sylvia Fall Festival from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the park, 1812 N. Lake Sylvia Road, Montesano. The festival begins with a camp-style pancake breakfast, followed by music, kids’ games and races, an artists’ market, food vendors, history talks, cooking demonstrations by local Boy Scouts, kids’ nature art and a group kayak paddle/tour on the lake at 2 p.m. Free kayaks available first-come, first-served, or bring your own. Free admission, but a Discover Pass is required to park. A free shuttle will be available all day between Simpson Elementary School in Montesano and the park.
