What’s Happening for Oct. 14
A celebration for the unveiling of a replica oak leaf and acorn quilt will be from 1 to 4 p.m. Sunday (Oct. 15) at the Bigelow House, 918 Glass Ave. NE in Olympia.
The event is sponsored by the Olympia Historical Society, the Bigelow House Museum and the Tumwater Homestead Quilters.
“The quilt group painstakingly created the replica based on a rare Oregon Trail era quilt in the Bigelow House Collection,” stated a news release about the event. “The striking red and green coverlet was hand-appliqued and quilted by the Homestead Quilters who will be on hand on Oct. 15 to share the story of the creation of the quilt and demonstrate the art of quilting.”
Other historic replica mid 19th century quilts and miniature quilts will be on display at the unveiling. All of the quilts will be on display through Dec. 3.
Guided tours of the house, which was built in 1860 and is one of the oldest homes in the area, will begin at 2:30 p.m. Admission is by donation. For more information go to www.olympiahistory.org or email: olyhistory@gmail.com.
