Capital City Marathon seeks new race director for 2019
The Capital City Marathon Association is looking to appoint a new race director following the marathon’s annual running this spring, the organization wrote in a release Tuesday.
Current race director Nona Snell, who took over in 2012, will officially step down in September.
The organization seeks to fill the position before the 2018 event in May, so Snell’s successor will be able to work alongside her the CCMA Board of Directors to gain familiarity with how the event is coordinated. The board will select the new race director.
“With Nona as our anchor since 2012, the event has absolutely flourished,” CCMA President Judy Hartmann said in the release.
“She has given her heart and soul to the marathon and all of its related events. We feel truly fortunate that she will continue to volunteer her talent with us in another capacity.”
The CCMA is a non-profit, volunteer organization. Its primary goal, the release says, is to “improve the health and well-being of the South Sound community through running.”
The annual race — which also includes a kids’ run, 5-mile run and half marathon — is held the third weekend in May each year.
In 2017, the 5-mile race, half marathon and marathon had a combined 1,807 finishers. More than 2,200 people participate in race day events each year, the release says.
“With our reliance on 500-plus volunteers, we view the Capital City Marathon as an event that belongs to and helps define this community,” Hartmann said. “It is our hope that the next race director shares this vision.”
More information about the race director position can be found on the organization's website. Interviews are slated to begin in January.
