A passerby helped a driver out of his burning vehicle after a crash Wednesday morning north of Tenino, according to the Thurston County Sheriff’s Office.

The vehicle was heading south on Old Highway 99 when it went off the road and flipped onto its side, starting a small fire in the vehicle, according to Sgt. Carla Carter.

The driver escaped the vehicle with the help of a passerby. The driver, who was the only person in the crashed vehicle, was treated for minor injuries at the scene.

The crash was reported shortly after 6 a.m. on the 13000 block of Old Highway 99. The road was briefly closed while emergency crews responded.
