Police in Yelm are investigating reports that teenage girls were groped by a fellow student while performing in a choir concert at Yelm High School on Wednesday.
A school district spokeswoman said the students reported the groping to school staff after the concert, and those reports were passed on to police.
Investigators were at the high school Thursday to interview students involved.
“Four or five girls came forward who said they had been touched inappropriately, but only one of them could identify who did that,” said Yelm Police Chief Todd Stancil. “We’re treating it as we would any sort of assault.”
The father of one of the alleged victims, who asked not to be identified, told KIRO he was stunned to hear what his daughter said happened while she was on stage.
“It happened numerous times, the whole time she was up there, and same story goes for the other girls,” he said.
