Man shot in foot during altercation in downtown Olympia Sunday morning

A man was shot in the foot in downtown Olympia early Sunday morning, according to Olympia police.

A vehicle tied to the incident has been impounded by police, but no one has been arrested, Lt. Sam Costello said Monday.

About 3 a.m. Sunday, a man left King Solomon’s Reef on Fourth Avenue and heard a man and woman arguing in a car in a lot across the street. After he heard the man threaten the woman’s life, he decided to intervene.

The car was occupied by one woman and two men, one of whom brandished a handgun after the man got into the vehicle to help. They struggled over the weapon, until it finally went off, shooting the man with the gun in the foot.

The man with the injury, and his two passengers, later fled the scene. The man who intervened recovered the gun and waited for police.

The incident is under investigation, Costello said.
