A Thurston County man was arrested early Thursday morning after he allegedly shot at a passing car on Marvin Road in Lacey.

A 911 caller told the Lacey Police Department that he had been driving south when he noticed a man standing in the road, waving his arms. The driver said the man, later identified as Scott Crismon, took aim and shot at his car, according to court documents.

Neither the driver nor his car was hit by the bullets.

Crismon, 50, was booked into the Thurston County jail. He appeared Thursday afternoon before Thurston County Superior Court Commissioner Nathan Kortokrax, who found probable cause for a first-degree assault while armed with a deadly weapon charge and set bail at $25,000. Kortokrax also ordered that Crismon be evaluated by a mental health professional prior to his release.

When he was arrested, Crismon reportedly told police he suffers from post-traumatic stress disorder. Public Defender Eric Pilon said during the Thursday court appearance that Crismon previously served in the military, and typically takes medication for PTSD.

He added that Crismon has never been convicted of a similar crime.

Deputy Prosecutor Christie Peters said Crismon and the alleged victim did not know each other, and it appeared that Crismon had shot at a random car.

Officers do not believe that Crismon was acting under the influence of drugs or alcohol, according to court documents.

The incident occurred at about 12:30 a.m. The driver reported that he didn’t speak with Crismon before the shooting, and the two hadn’t had any prior confrontations.

Lacey officers searched for Crismon for about 30 minutes before locating him on the 7300 block of Spencer Avenue Northeast. He had a gun in a holster, according to court documents, and a concealed pistol license.

His clothing was wet, and he told police that he had walked through a retention pond.
