Man dies after being struck by pickup truck in Shelton
A 63-year-old Shelton pedestrian died at Harborview Medical Center in Seattle after he was struck by a pickup truck Wednesday in the 2100 block of Olympic Highway North, according to Shelton Police.
Officers arrived at the scene at about 6 p.m. to find the pedestrian in the street with major injuries, Shelton Lt. Mike Fiola said. The man was flown to Harborview and pronounced dead about an hour later, Fiola said.
The pickup, a 2010 Ford F-150, was driven by a 78-year-old Shelton man. Drugs, alcohol and vehicle speed are not believed to have been factors in the crash, Fiola said.
The driver was not cited, Fiola told The Olympian.
“The preliminary investigation, including statements from multiple witnesses, revealed that the pedestrian stepped into the roadway outside of a designated crosswalk and was struck by the oncoming vehicle,” Fiola wrote in a news release.
It does not appear to have been a suicide, he said.
The name of the pedestrian is being withheld until his family is notified, Fiola said.
Anyone who witnessed the collision is asked to call the Shelton Police Department at 360-426-4441.
