A wanted man crashes car near SPSCC to try to get away from police
Olympia Police tried to pull over a driver on Highway 101 near Black Lake Boulevard Thursday afternoon, and that caused a series of events that created some chaos around the entrance to South Puget Sound Community College.
Olympia Police Lt. Sam Costello said the driver, who was wanted on several warrants, kept driving, hit about three vehicles in the area, ditched his car in an SPSCC parking lot, and took off running. The man is known to police.
The police activity shortly after 12:30 p.m. caused issues for students trying to enter SPSCC at the Crosby Boulevard entrance, college officials tweeted at about 2 p.m. Thursday.
“Be aware of delays and police lights if you’re making your way to campus,” the tweet stated.
At one point, about a dozen police vehicles were near the college’s exit, a college official said.
