Police search parks, trails and even some boats for domestic violence suspect
A 30-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of felony assault domestic violence after his girlfriend reported that he hit her with a metal pipe and choked her while they were on a boat in West Bay Marina, according to Olympia Police Lt. Sam Costello.
At about 7 a.m. Friday, the woman called 911 to make the report, stating that he had left the boat to walk a dog.
Police did an extensive search for the suspect on nearby trails, parks, wooded areas and even some boats, Costello said.
“He was hiding there somewhere,” he said.
After nearly three hours, the suspect made contact with police. He had been communicating by phone and Facebook messenger with his girlfriend and his parents, Costello said.
“He approached the officers at the marina and turned himself in,” he said.
