The Nisqually Tribal Police have scheduled an active shooter training early Thursday at the Red Wind Casino, 12819 Yelm Highway SE.

Neighbors, passersby and commuters likely will see police activity between 5 and 8 a.m. around the casino and the tribe’s public safety building at 11702 Yelm Highway SE, officials say.

The training is being conducted by Blue Line Inc. and will include some personnel from the Thurston County Sheriff’s Office and the Yelm Police Department, according to Nisqually Police Chief Tom Iyall.

“The Nisqually Police Department and Red Wind Casino have been collaborating on active shooter training for several years, and continue to ensure safety plans are in place for the tribal enterprises,” Red Wind Casino General Manager Cheebo Frazier said in a news release. “We train all 675 team members on board for active shooters in our orientation training.

“Preparedness is key. The Las Vegas Police Department and their partners were able to get control of the strip quickly during the recent Mandalay Bay Casino shooting, thanks to years of preparation for such an event.”
