Thurston deputies investigating stabbing outside Sampan Restaurant

A man in his 40s was stabbed in the chest and taken to Providence St. Peter Hospital in Olympia early Thursday, according to the Thurston County Sheriff’s Office.

About 2 a.m., deputies were dispatched to the Sampan Restaurant at 922 Hensley St. NE after a report of a fight in the parking lot.

By the time deputies arrived, the group of people that had been gathered outside the business had largely dispersed, Sgt. Cameron Simper said. Deputies began to interview those still at the scene, then received a call from the hospital that the stabbing victim had shown up at the emergency room.

Although stabbed in the chest, the injury was not considered life-threatening, Simper said.

He said the Sheriff’s Office continues to investigate, but the victim has refused to cooperate with detectives.
