Night owls beware: Overnight lane closures planned for I-5 in Lacey this week
You know that massive construction project to convert the Marvin Road interchange into a diverging diamond interchange? Overnight commuters can expect more traffic disruptions this week.
Beginning Tuesday night, the southbound I-5 exit to Marvin Road will close from 9 p.m. to 11:59 p.m., according to the state Department of Transportation. WSDOT suggests that drivers use Exit 114 in Nisqually as a detour.
Then things really get serious.
Beginning Wednesday night, the southbound I-5 exit to Marvin Road will close again at 9 p.m. and crews also will begin to close lanes in both directions of I-5. Also: the Marvin Road overpass will be reduced to one lane in both directions.
By 11:59 p.m. Wednesday, both directions of I-5 will be reduced to one lane and traffic will be redirected through the Marvin Road interchange. Law enforcement will help direct traffic, according to WSDOT.
All lanes of I-5 and Marvin Road are expected to reopen at 5 a.m. Thursday.
