Pursuit suspect changed vehicles at Red Wind Casino after carjacking, deputies say
A 36-year-old Centralia man was booked on multiple offenses Sunday after he led law enforcement on a long pursuit that included a carjacking at Red Wind Casino, according to the Thurston County Sheriff’s Office.
The man was finally taken into custody off Marvin Road Southeast near Lacey at an apartment complex called The Village at Union Mills. A deputy intentionally collided with the suspect’s vehicle to end the pursuit, Lt. Ray Brady said.
About 5 p.m. Sunday, a Yelm police officer made a traffic stop, then discovered a no-contact order between the man and woman in the vehicle. It was then that the driver took off, Brady said.
The pursuit eventually led to Red Wind Casino, he said. The suspect drove into the parking garage, crashed into a parked vehicle, then left the woman behind in the car and took off on foot. He entered the casino, then exited to carjack a security vehicle and took off again.
After leaving the casino, the man eventually headed south on I-5, then exited at Marvin Road and headed south. During that part of the pursuit, the man drove up on the sidewalks in the area of Marvin Road and Martin Way, Brady said.
The man was ultimately arrested on suspicion of multiple crimes, including motor vehicle theft, eluding police and hit-and-run of an unattended vehicle, according to Thurston County jail information.
