He was wanted for assault at a fast-food restaurant. A deputy found him Monday

A 56-year-old man wanted for assault and brandishing a firearm at a McDonald’s in Lacey last month was taken into custody early Monday, according to the Thurston County Sheriff’s Office.

The man was booked on suspicion of multiple offenses, including resisting arrest, possession of stolen property, displaying a weapon, felony harassment and fourth-degree assault.

After the incident last month, the man was thought to be driving a vehicle with stolen plates. A Sheriff’s deputy spotted those plates just after midnight Monday on Yelm Highway, Lt. Ray Brady said.

The deputy followed the vehicle, then initiated a traffic stop near 18th Avenue Southeast, off Ruddell Road, he said.

The suspect got out of the vehicle and was ordered to stop. He started to walk away, then began to run. The deputy caught up to him, but noticed that the man was digging into his pockets for something, Brady said.

Fearing that the suspect was armed, the deputy used his Taser once, then again when the man continued to resist arrest, Brady said. Other deputies and Lacey police officers arrived and finally were able to take the man into custody, Brady said.

Meanwhile, a deputy and Lacey officer crashed into each other’s vehicles while responding to the scene.

Both the deputy and officer were headed south on Ruddell Road. The deputy drove past the incident, then did a u-turn, unaware of the Lacey officer’s vehicle, which resulted in a collision. Both vehicles were damaged, but the deputy and officer were not seriously hurt, Brady said.
