Apartments proposed for Woodbury Crossing in west Olympia

Woodbury Crossing, a single-family housing development off Mud Bay Road in west Olympia that is known for its giant stormwater pond, could soon be home to apartments as well, according to the city of Olympia.

The city has received a land use application from a Puyallup-based developer to build two 40-foot buildings, each with 40 residential units. The project also is proposed to have 3,200 square feet of commercial space.

A color rendering of the project released by the city also shows a swimming pool, basketball/pickleball courts and a small park.

What happens next? The following:

A neighborhood meeting is set for 5:30 p.m. Jan. 6 at McLane Black Lake Fire Department, Station 91, at 125 Delphi Road NW. Questions about the proposal and the city’s review process are welcome, according to the city.

The first public comment period ends at 5 p.m. Jan. 10. To share your thoughts about the proposal, send comments to lead planner Nicole Floyd at nfloyd@ci.olympia.wa.us.

A design review board meeting is set for 6:30 p.m. Feb. 13 at Olympia City Hall, 601 Fourth Ave. E. Written comments will be accepted at the meeting, but no public testimony will be heard.

At a minimum, the project must meet requirements under the city of Olympia’s comprehensive plan, city codes and conform to the state Environmental Policy Act, according to the city.
