What do I do with my Christmas tree in Thurston County? Here are the options

The Christmas tree standing in your living room is probably beginning to feel a little out of place now that the holidays are just about over. If you’re wondering where you should put it or take it, here are the places to do just that in Thurston County.

Pick-up locations

LeMay yard/food waste customers: Place undecorated trees in or near your food waste bin in 3-foot sections or less. Extra fees apply for customers not signed up for yard/food waste collection. For information, call LeMay at 360-923-0111.

City of Olympia garbage: For customers with Tuesday or Wednesday service, tree pickup will be Jan. 4. For Thursday or Friday service, pickup will be Jan. 11. Place undecorated trees in regular pickup spot by 6 a.m. Trees more than 6 fee must be cut in half. For information, call the city of Olympia at 360-753-8340.

City of Lacey: Local boy scouts will provide curbside pickup of trees within city limits Jan. 4. Undecorated trees should be placed curbside in front of homes by 8 a.m. For information, call the city of Lacey at 360-491-3214.

City of Tumwater: Residents may place undecorated trees at the curb (between the road and the sidewalk) near their closest main intersection beginning Jan. 13. For information, call Tumwater’s public works department at 360-754-4150.

Drop-off locations

Waste and Recovery Center: The Waste and Recovery Center, otherwise known as the dump, at 2420 Hogum Bay Road NE in Lacey, is accepting trees through Jan. 12. It is open 7 a.m. to 4:45 p.m. Mondays through Fridays and 8 a.m. to 4:45 p.m. Saturdays and Sundays. The dump will be closed New Year’s Day.

If you don’t feel like driving to the dump, here are some other drop-off locations:

If you live in Rainier: Trees can be dropped off at the drop box facility at 13010 Rainier Acres Road through Jan. 12. The drop box is open 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Fridays through Sundays.

If you live in Rochester: Trees can be be dropped off at the drop box facility at 16500 Saregent Road through Jan. 12. The Rochester drop box is open 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesdays, Saturdays and Sundays.

If you live in Tenino: Trees can be dropped off at 418 S. Wichman St. through Jan. 18.

If you live in Yelm: Trees can be put in a dumpster at Yelm City Park through Jan. 10, or until the dumpster is full.
