Did you know you can shop at the Olympia Farmers Market in January, February and March?
When one thinks of downtown’s Olympia Farmers Market, one probably envisions the sunny skies of spring and summer. But did you know you can shop at the market in January, February and March?
The market reminded residents this week that its “winter market” opens 10 a.m. Saturday and it will operate from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturdays for the next three months.
What can one do during the winter market? Much of what you would do during spring and summer at the market.
Expect local farmers to bring their winter storage crops, plus find greens, herbs, pasture-raised meats, dairy products, sauerkraut, jam, cured meats, seafood, baked goods and the work of local artists, according to a news release.
The market also is offering free, warm beverages on Saturdays. Stop by the market office to receive a beverage coupon and a list of participating restaurants.
The market expands to its four-day-a-week schedule in April and that continues through the end of October.
About 500,000 people a year visit the farmers market, which opened in 1975 and is home to more than 100 vendors.
