Woman killed in head-on crash in Mason County has been identified
A woman and boy died at the scene of a head-on crash in Mason County Saturday afternoon, according to the Washington State Patrol.
Two more people in the same vehicle — a 20-year-old woman and 17-year-old boy — were injured and taken to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle.
The woman who died was identified as Francisca Tercero-Zacarias, 43, of Belfair. The name was released by the State Patrol and confirmed by Mason County Coroner Wes Stockwell.
The 15-year-old boy’s name was initially released by the State Patrol, then redacted in a follow-up news release at 11 a.m. Sunday.
About 4:50 p.m. Saturday, the four were headed east on Belfair Tahuya Road. Meanwhile, a 51-year-old Belfair man was headed west on the same road in his vehicle. Troopers say the Belfair man crossed the center line and crashed head-on into the eastbound vehicle.
The Belfair man, according to the State Patrol, is suspected of driving under the influence of drugs or alcohol. He now faces these possible charges: two counts of vehicular homicide and two counts of vehicular assault.
