When’s snow coming to Oly? Here’s what meteorologists say

There’s a good chance Olympia will get some snow next week, meteorologists say, but exactly when is still unclear.

A mix of rain and snow fell briefly Thursday morning, and that could happen again Friday morning, National Weather Service Meteorologist Samantha Borth told The Olympian.

Meteorologists predict the Friday system will bring more lowland rain and “really heavy” mountain snow. Along with that storm comes a prediction for “breezy winds” that are expected to blow at 20 to 30 miles per hour in Olympia, with 35-mile-per-hour gusts, according to Borth. As the storm moves out, lingering showers could fall on Olympia through the weekend.

But next week will bring colder temperatures and a greater chance for lowland snow. Snow is possible all next week, as temperatures dip as low as the mid 20s, and as of Thursday, Borth said the best chance looks to be Wednesday. But that’s still six days out and certainty is low.

“We’re pretty confident that there will be some lowland snow sometime next week,” Borth said. “But as to where, when, and the timing — we’re still pretty uncertain about that.”
