Bloodworks Northwest requests donors in wake of Seattle shooting
Bloodworks Northwest, which has a location on Olympia’s east side, is requesting blood donations following a shooting in downtown Seattle Wednesday evening that killed one person and wounded seven others.
The seven injured victims were transported to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle. In a Facebook post Wednesday night, Bloodworks Northwest wrote that it’s the blood provider for Harborview, and that it was in need of donors.
“We’re devastated by this evening’s shooting in downtown Seattle,” the post reads. “We’re currently experiencing a severe shortage of type O blood, the type most often needed in emergency situations.”
The Bloodworks website reports that the community blood supply is at “emergency levels” and donations of all blood types are needed.
Bloodworks’ donation center in Olympia is at 1220 Eastside St. SE. Interested donors can call 800-398-7888 to schedule an appointment.
