She stopped to get gas with an acquaintance. Then he stole her car, police say

A woman stopped to get gas for her rental car in Olympia Saturday night, only to see it stolen by a man she had spent the day with, according to Olympia police.

The silver Kia Optima was last seen headed east on Pacific Avenue Southeast, Lt. Paul Lower said Sunday.

The woman, 36, rented the car in Renton, then drove down to Olympia where she spent the day with a man she had met, Lower said.

About 7:10 p.m. Saturday, the woman stopped to get gas at the Chevron station in the 3200 block of Pacific Avenue Southeast. She then went inside the station convenience store to pay for the gas, and when she came out, the car was gone, Lower said.

The suspect, thought to be in his 20s, is described as a black man with braided hair. He was last seen wearing a white T-shirt and gray sweatpants.

The woman was unsure about the man’s name, Lower said.

Anyone with information about this incident is asked to call Olympia police at 360-753-8300.
