Passenger arrested, but driver still at large after 100 mph pursuit near Nisqually
A 34-year-old female passenger was arrested, but the driver is still at large after a 100 mph pursuit near Nisqually Monday night, according to the Thurston County Sheriff’s Office.
The driver is described as a Hispanic man, 5-foot-9, with an athletic build. He was last seen wearing dark jeans and a light-colored shirt, Lt. Ray Brady said.
About 11:45 p.m. Monday, a deputy stopped the man’s vehicle in the area of Old Pacific Highway Southeast and Reservation Road because it didn’t have license plates.
Then the driver took off, reaching speeds of almost 100 miles per hour on Reservation Road, Brady said.
Other deputies were already in the area, so they put down spike strips to slow the vehicle at Reservation Road and state Route 510, he said.
The driver hit the spike strips, but was still able to make it to the roundabout at SR 510 and Yelm Highway. The driver went around the roundabout in the opposite direction and crashed into a ditch, then got out of the car and ran off, Brady said.
A K9 was unable to find him, he said.
The 34-year-old passenger was arrested on an outstanding warrant out of Tumwater, Brady said.
Anyone with information about this incident is asked to call the Thurston County Sheriff’s Office at 360-786-5500.
