Lewis County Coroner identifies man killed by train in Napavine

The Lewis County Coroner’s Office has identified the man who was hit and killed by an Amtrak train in Napavine last week as Fernando Aburto-Pompa of Chehalis.

Aburto-Pompa, 39, died of “multiple blunt force injuries,” according to a news release from the coroner’s office, and the manner of death was accidental.

The accident occurred the afternoon of Feb. 13 at the Washington Street railroad crossing, according to a news release from Napavine Police Department.

Crossing arms were down and crossing lights were on when a southbound Amtrak train approached and Aburto-Pompa and another man tried to cross the tracks, according to the news release.

The first man made it across, but the train hit Aburto-Pompa.

A Napavine Police investigation into the incident was closed Feb. 16, investigating officer Sgt. S. Dawes told The Olympian Wednesday. There were no concerns of any suspicious activity, Dawes said.
