The Thurston County Coroner’s Office has identified Larry Larsen, 64, of Lacey, as the person who was found dead inside a vehicle at Marathon Park in Olympia Thursday night.

The cause of Larsen’s death had not been determined as of Friday afternoon, Coroner Gary Warnock told The Olympian, but there was no sign of foul play. Warnock said no pill containers or alcohol were found in the vehicle, and his office was waiting on medical records to see if the man was suffering from any medical conditions.

Larsen had been living with one of his daughters in Lacey, Coroner Gary Warnock said. His family has been notified.

Olympia Police responded just after 10 p.m. Thursday to a report from a caller who said a person appeared to be unconscious in their car parked at Marathon Park, on the southwest side of Capitol Lake, Lt. Paul Lower told The Olympian.

An officer arrived and found a man, now known to be Larsen, who was unresponsive and did not appear to be breathing. While responders with Olympia Fire Department were on their way to the scene, an officer opened the vehicle’s door, checked for a pulse, and found Larsen had passed away, Lower said.

Olympia Police also called Washington State Patrol, which has jurisdiction in the park.

Troopers and detectives responded and — like the Coroner — do not suspect foul play after a preliminary investigation, according to a State Patrol press release.
