A fire that began on a stovetop damaged two Olympia apartment units Saturday morning, displacing three occupants.

No one was injured in the 1 a.m. fire in the 2400 block of Elliott Avenue NW.

Olympia firefighters found heavy smoke coming from the second floor of the apartment building when they arrived.

The fire heavily damaged one unit and extended into the attic, the fire department said. The apartment below was damaged by water.

The building did have a working fire alarm system, but no fire sprinklers, according to the fire department.

The Red Cross was called to the scene to assist the displaced occupants.

Damage to the building and its contents was estimated to be $250,000.
